“Raise your flag”

I often wonder what’s the criteria to be an empowered woman. Is an empowered woman need to be rich and successful in life? Is an empowered woman need to have a high-grade educational background? Or is empowered women need too many accomplishments to be called one?

Even in present times, discrimination against a woman is still highly recognizable. Gone are the days were women just stayed at home while their husbands work for a living. Gone are the days when women need to be married to fulfill their duty as a woman. Lastly, gone are the days when women cannot even have the freedom to speak for their rights. The prejudices that women have suffered in the past drive them to stand up for their rights while fighting against the odds that one day women will be seen just like how people see men. Empowered women are those who have the will, courage, and bravery to fight for women’s rights in society. Empowered women are those who can influence other people to achieve something good not only for the benefit of women but for everyone.

Thus, to answer the questions I have in mind empowered women need not be rich and successful. Empowered women need not have a high-grade education. Lastly, empowered women need not have many accomplishments. Empowered women need to have a heart, compassion, and bravery because fighting women’s rights amidst the society wherein right now is like fighting an unknown rival we never know how big or scary it is.

Araw ng Kasarinlan

For over 300 years, the Philippines was a Spanish colony, and is named after King Philip II of Spain.   The Philippines has two  days of independence. Celebrated on  June  12th, it  recognizes the day the islands  were liberated  from Spanish rule. However,  US  forces occupied the Philippines until 1946. Independence came on July 4, the same day as  US  Independence Day, but Filipinos recognize June 12 as the day of their  legitimate  independence.  The independence  of the Philippines was a  great achievement.    Independence Day commemorates  the sacrifices of  national heroes, honors  the  country's sovereignty, instills  nationalism in citizens,  and celebrates  the culture and  traditions  of its people.    parades  are held  nationwide  with  the  participation  of  the  government...

Just the way I am

This is Norlie Grace Acelador, 15 years of old. My birthday is on December 12. I was raised and have been residing at Lingsat Bantay, Ilocos Sur, for a decade and a year now. What I like about our province is that we are surrounded by nature, and I just love it, it’s so relaxing to see.   If I were to describe myself, I could say that I'm a quiet person because I prefer keeping things to myself. I often tend to keep my thoughts and opinions to myself, maybe because I’m scared that people will say things, maybe because I’m afraid to be criticized because of my opinions and maybe deep inside me, I still think that I’m a little girl not yet ready to face the world, the reality.   I always overthink everything, like what people might think about me when I talk. Because I always imagine them talking about me and laughing at me. Always feeling anxious when walking in public places where there is a lot of people. Now, I realized maybe I’m just too insecure to be me, maybe ...
